New Year, New Learning!
With students coming back refreshed from the holidays, January through April is prime learning time in our school! Consistent student attendance is key to making the most of this time. Here are some samples of the good work students have been doing since coming back from the break:
Second graders learn about robotics coding using a coding program called Lego We Do.

A Morning Drop-off Thank You
Most mornings, we have a staff member outside on the curb greeting students in the drop-off zone. This past Monday, I was on duty. In addition to having the pleasure of seeing many cheerful children and parents first thing, I observed the patience and care drivers exhibited in the drop-off zone. It is greatly appreciated!

SUMMER SOAK IS COMING!
Windsor Central Supervisory Union will again be hosting a summer program for the month of July. Staff are designing some exciting new sessions. Did you know there is an after SOAK childcare option through the Woodstock Rec department? Stay tuned to sign up in March! The summer programs expo will be March 7th at WES where you can learn more about SOAK and a variety of summer programs offered in this area. WES NURSE NEWS
There are two upcoming community events coordinated by Annie Luke, the district's Student Assistance Professional-Community Liaison
Title: Drugs/Community Awareness & Information Evening - January 23/5-6:30pm, Woodstock Union HS/MS Library
Description: What are the facts about legal and illegal drugs in our community? Some of the topics will be marijuana, vaping, alcohol, edibles, dabbing, as well as other drugs of choice.
Guest speaker: Steve Waldo, a 34-year veteran of the Vermont Department of Liquor Control in both the Enforcement and the Education Divisions and previously Chief of Police in Ludlow, Vermont.
February 13th/5-6:30pm/Woodstock Union HS/MS Library - Detective Sgt. Richard King.
There will be a community presentation on drug awareness by Detective Sergeant Richard King of the Ludlow Police Department.
This presentation will discuss drug trends in society and Vermont. We will cover the seven drug categories to include the indicators of use and paraphernalia commonly associated with each category. We have included sections on synthetic drugs, bath salts, cannabinoids, vaping-different types and illicit uses, THC concentrates and edibles.
Presenter(s) are nationally certified Drug Recognition Experts with extensive experience in impaired driving enforcement and drug investigations.
The WES Nurse's Office is in need of donations of sweatpants. Several times a week, there are students in need of a clean change of pants, and our supplies have dwindled significantly, particularly for the younger grades. We welcome new or gently used, clean pants with elastic or drawstring waistbands. If your child comes home with borrowed pants, we hope you will wash them and return them to school for future use.
Also, we play outdoors every day! Children must have boots, snow pants, winter coats, hats and mittens/gloves. This is the fastest we have ever gone through our loaner gloves and hats in the office. Please help your child prepare and send back any loaners that may have come home!

Tweens Social Media Use
As students approach middle school, more and more have access to devices that can text and access social media apps and programs. As educators and parents, we do our best to help students struggling to navigate the dynamics of social media posts, comments, and conversations. The WUHSMS counseling office recently shared with us this article from Psychology Today about social media use among tweens and teens. There are several compelling reasons in this article to hold off on granting students access to texting and social media including the brain development of our tweens and teens.

SNOW DAY OR DELAYED OPENING NOTIFICATIONS
The supervisory union sends out an automated call and text if there is a snow day or delayed opening. Please let David Miles know in the WES office if you did not get the November calls. The information can also be found on WCAX and VPR. Look for "Windsor Central Schools." Individual schools/towns in our district are not typically listed separately.
