Congratulations WES Theater Players!

On December 1st, the WES community was delighted by the performance of Peter Pan put on by our own student actors at the Town Hall Theater. Thank you to Ms. Willis and Sharon Groblicki for the huge undertaking of directing the show. We are grateful to the parents who were a huge help with costumes and the set. Pentangle staff provided expertise with lights and sound.

WHAT IS THE GOLDEN PAW?

You may be wondering about a new initiative at WES in support of our PBIS programming.  Perhaps your child has received a Golden Paw, or perhaps he or she has told you about classmates who have earned one.  The Golden Paw is a weekly recognition given to one student in each grade (each homeroom for 5th and 6th). Students can earn this recognition by exceeding school wide expectations, or showing personal growth through their effort to meet school wide expectations. Teachers work as teams to select Golden Paw recipients each week, and also honor the recipients in class by talking about their exemplary accomplishments.  This way, students know why their peers are being selected, and are motivated by that positive behavior.  Every student has a chance to earn the Golden Paw every week.  It is our hope that all students will earn a Golden Paw, and some may earn multiple Golden Paws this year.  When your child earns a Golden Paw, it is something to celebrate!  We certainly do here at WES! How are we doing? As we work to implement PBIS at WES in the most effective way possible, we encourage and appreciate your feedback about the Golden Paw and our PBIS initiative.  If you would like to give feedback, please e-mail our PBIS coordinator, Cody TanCreti, at ctancreti@wcsu.net.

SCHOOL BOARD MEETINGS EXPLAINED

You may notice that there are different types of school board meetings listed in the WES upcoming events. School governance for Woodstock Elementary School is in transition this year. Historically, WES has been governed by a small school board and Woodstock voters have approved a WES specific budget. This is the final year that WES will operate as an independent district with its own board and budget. Last March, Woodstock voters voted to join a merged district with several other towns in and around our supervisory union. The board for this new district is called the Windsor Central Modified Unified Union School District. All of the towns that are part of the WCMUUSD (or WCUD for short) have representation on the board, and this large district will have a shared budget to be discussed at upcoming meetings and voted on by townspeople in March. Contact information for board members and agendas for the WES and Windsor Central board meetings can be found by visiting the WCSU school board webpage: http://www.wcsu.net/school-boards/

 NURSE NEWS

There has been a lot of buzz lately regarding Vermont Department of Health immunization regulations for school children. In order to help inform parents about the required vaccines, I have provided links to a couple of websites below. I also encourage parents to speak with your child's pediatrician about any questions or concerns you have regarding vaccine safety and effectiveness. Have a safe and healthy holiday season!

THANK YOU, MAPLEFIELDS!

We are so appreciative of Maplefields for once again making a donation to the STEM lab. WES is fortunate to be part of a community that values and supports local education!
Allison from Maplefields presents a check to STEM students, Ms. Gauvin, and Mr. Pickett.
