WES WORLD FLAVORS SPANISH COLLABORATION!

The WES cafe collaborated with the WES Spanish program once again, to explore the flavors of the South American country of Colombia this week. Students and staff gathered for a Spanish themed celebration at Terrific Tuesday and then enjoyed Colombian cuisine in the cafe on Thursday. We were fortunate to have to Dana Castor, a Colombian student attending Woodstock High School come and speak about her country and the traditional foods she enjoys at both the assembly and at lunch. Fifth and sixth graders learned about sustainable environmental practices used in growing South American crops like coffee, bananas, tea and chocolate and how they as consumers can use their knowledge to make informed purchasing choices that help support farmers abroad. The third graders were able to make the Arepas, a traditional Colombian cornbread, to accompany the Ajiaco, a chicken and potato soup. Students also enjoyed homemade Equal Exchange coffee ice cream for dessert.
