FOOD SERVICE COMMITTEE ASSISTANCE REQUESTED

Dear Windsor Central Supervisory Union Parents and Friends:

We are currently in the process of having entities bid on running the food service program in the Windsor Central Supervisory Union.  We are having outside vendors compete through the RFP system and our best external option will be identified through this process.  At the same time we will be clarifying what an internal option looks like.  In order to be sure that we have the most cohesive internal proposal possible, Superintendent Mary Beth Banios has formally charged Gretchen Czaja with the task of creating the internal proposal.

The food services review committee that is being formed will both identify the best external option and then compare the external option to our internal proposal and make a recommendation to the Board how to best proceed with food service delivery for next year.

This Food Service Review Committee is headed by Principal John Hansen (Prosper Valley) and Board Member Jessica Stout (Woodstock).  The committee is seeking representation from all WCSU towns as follows:
3 from Woodstock; 1 each from Bridgewater, Barnard, Pomfret, Reading, and Killington.  The final member of the committee will be the Director of Finance and Operations.

We have scheduled three meetings for discussion and review of the proposals. Members of the committee should be able to attend all three meetings.  The meetings will be on Tuesday, May 29Thursday, May 31; and Friday, June 1.  All meetings will run from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. and be held at the WCSU conference room.  The committee will create its recommendation to the full Board by Friday, June 8.

Please send an email to both John Hansen (jhansen@wcsu.net) and Jessica Stout (jstout@wcsu.net) by Wednesday, May 23 indicating your interest in participating on this committee on the three dates and times indicated.  If more people apply than spots exist, we will randomly draw names for each town.  Make sure your email includes a phone number where we can leave a message if necessary.  We will contact all applicants sometime on May 24 with the final committee makeup.

Sincerely,
John Hansen and Jessica Stout

NURSE NEWS

Summer is quickly approaching! This is a great time of year to schedule your child's annual well child visit with his or her pediatrician. Many children will need physical forms completed for summer camps and proof of immunizations to attend these camps. Even if your child is not attending camp, the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that every child receive a yearly well child exam at his or her medical home. This visit is the perfect time to discuss immunizations with your child's medical provider.

The HPV vaccine is now recommended for boys and girls age 11-12. There has been a lot of discussion regarding this vaccine that prevents a variety of cancers. Pediatricians follow current, research based information on vaccines. I encourage all parents with questions regarding the HPV vaccine to have a conversation with your child's pediatrician. Wishing everyone a safe and healthy summer!
