    EARTH DAY CLEAN UP

In honor of Earth Day, WES and TPVS teamed up again last week to help spruce up the school grounds and our community. Teams headed out to clean up trails, rake the school grounds, prepare gardens for planting, pick up trash on the Green, installed a Little Library on the playground, and work at Faulkner Park.

Many thanks to the Unified Arts team who organized the event, Woodstock High School Environmental Club students who volunteered to help, The WES Farm to School Fund who helped cover costs including the new Little Library on the playground, and Mrs. Klocek who coordinated materials delivery with Chippers.

    Thoughts On Stewardship and Self-Direction

This fall, the WCUD School Board approved five characteristics for the Profile of a Graduate of Windsor Central Schools. The traits are (in no particular order) academic excellence, self-direction, stewardship, skillful communication, and critical problem solving. As we think about how to introduce these traits to our elementary students, the ideas of stewardship and self-direction come to mind as things parents can be encouraging at home. In our WES preK classroom, three and four year olds have self-directed choice time where they have access to a wide variety of learning opportunities and they choose what to play and when they want to have snack. In grades K-6, we are preparing for an Earth Day clean up, practicing stewardship for our school and community. If you are looking for inspiration at home, here are some ideas of ways children can be self-directed stewards at home:
